Two years after its entry into the John Zorn’s prestigious label, Gabriele Coen presents his new album for the “Tzadik” in the series “Radical Jewish Culture” that John Zorn has dedicated to the best expressions of the new Jewish music at international level .
In “Yiddish melodies in jazz,” Coen leads his ensemble at the heart of the relationship between Jewish music and American jazz, exploring the influence of Jewish Heritage on jazz through a personal interpretation of songs that have become true classics the jazz tradition.
The debt of Jewish music towards jazz from which the United States has been able to draw new life, is well known and has been translated over the years into a new kind of music that combines the Hebrew sound with the new frontiers of sound offers from jazz and other musical cultures.
Gabriele Coen leads us now to discover the penetration of sound into the American Jewish mainstream, presenting for the first time in a contemporary way a handful of songs from the repertoire of klezmer music and Yiddish song which are then entered in their own right in the jazz tradition in their memorable performances of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, Shelly Manne, Terry Gibbs and Herbie Mann.
With the eclecticism of expression that is the hallmark of his artistic career and research, Gabriele Coen presents these songs, along with two original compositions, creating an exciting, unusual and lyrical music experience through a sound texture that draws on jazz, rock, world music, without forgetting the Jewish roots of his inspiration.

A due anni dal suo ingresso nella prestigiosa etichetta newyorkese di John Zorn, Gabriele Coen presenta il suo nuovo lavoro discografico per la “Tzadik” nella collana “Radical Jewish Culture” che John Zorn ha voluto dedicare alle migliori espressioni della nuova musica ebraica a livello internazionale.
In “Yiddish melodies in jazz”, Coen conduce il suo ensemble al cuore del rapporto tra la musica ebraica e il jazz americano, esplorando l’influenza dell’eredità ebraica sul jazz attraverso una personale interpretazione di brani che sono diventati dei veri e propri classici della tradizione jazzistica.
Il debito della musica ebraica nei confronti del jazz da cui, negli Stati Uniti, ha saputo trarre nuova linfa vitale, è cosa nota e si è tradotta, negli anni, in un nuovo tipo di musica che coniuga il sound ebraico con le nuove frontiere sonore offerte dal jazz e da altre culture musicali.
Gabriele Coen ci conduce ora alla scoperta della penetrazione delle sonorità ebraiche nel mainstream americano, presentando per la prima volta in chiave contemporanea una manciata di brani tratti dal repertorio della musica klezmer e della canzone yiddish che sono poi entrati a pieno diritto nella tradizione jazzistica nelle loro memorabili esecuzioni di Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, Shelly Manne, Terry Gibbs e Herbie Mann.
Con l’eclettismo espressivo che è il segno distintivo del suo percorso artistico e di ricerca, Gabriele Coen presenta questi brani, affiancati da due composizioni originali, creando un’appassionante, inconsueta e lirica esperienza musicale attraverso un tessuto sonoro che attinge al jazz, al rock, alla world music, senza mai dimenticare le radici ebraiche della sua ispirazione.
