On days 2, 3, 9 and 10 June 2012 the city of Nemi celebrates the 79th edition of the Strawberry Festival.
The event, which will be held during the first two weekends of June, celebrates the goodness of this fruit that already in 1877, in a food survey conducted in the newborn Kingdom of Italy, figure as a typical product of the town in the Roman Hills.
From the ancient Romans, the strawberry was called “fragrans”, because of its intense aroma. The goodness of this fruit even made it worthy of being celebrated in a festival, the one in honor of Adonis, because according to legend, at his death, Venus wept countless tears that arrived on the earth turned into little red hearts: strawberries. Even today, the Feast of Strawberries remains the country most renowned and visited Festival not connected to a Christian cult.
Several events will enliven the days of the Feast of Strawberries; the heart of the event will be Sunday, June 3 when will be distributed free baskets of strawberries.

Nei giorni 2, 3, 9 e 10 Giugno 2012 la città di Nemi festeggia la 79° edizione della Sagra delle Fragole.
L’evento, che si terrà durante i primi 2 weekend del mese di Giugno, celebra la bontà di questo frutto che già nel 1877, in un’inchiesta agroalimentare condotta nel neonato Regno d’Italia, figura come prodotto tipico della cittadina delle Colline Romane.
Dagli antichi romani la fragola veniva chiamata “fragrans”, per via del suo profumo intenso. La bontà di questo frutto lo rese addirittura degno di essere celebrato in una festa popolare, quella in onore di Adone, poiché secondo la leggenda, alla sua morte, Venere pianse innumerevoli lacrime, che giunte sulla terra si trasformarono in piccoli cuori rossi: le fragole.
Ancora oggi la Sagra delle Fragole rimane la festa di paese più rinomata e visitata non collegata ad un culto cristiano.
Numerosi gli eventi che animeranno le giornate della Sagra delle Fragole; il cuore dell’evento sarà domenica 3 Giugno quando verranno distribuiti gratuitamente cestini di fragole.
